Visit at VDCA

Some time ago, when we were looking for partner organisations, we found the VDCA school in Siem Reap. Like POC, VDCA was founded by monks, after several expasions and relocations, VDCA is now located in the heart of Siem Reap. Sophean used to be a teacher at VDCA during his time as a monk. In order to learn from their good work and to check out if they might be suiteable as a partner organisation, we visited the school together.  As a welcome present, we offered a package of books, pens to Main Togh, the director of VDCA.

Like POC, VDCA offers supplementary education. Their focus, however, is teaching English. They also offer a computer class, to teach the kids the basic knowledge about a PC and important programs. Furthermore, a former student received a art teacher training, thus, VDCA also provides art classes. The pictures that are created in class are sold at a guest house in Siem Reap.

Besides, VDCA also offers foreign volunteers a chance to support. The volunteers liveon their own expenses; they support the teacher in class, or offer vocational training to the staff members. Thus, the school administration got better organised and a library was founded.

Inspired by the visit, we had severall ideas to copy VDCA's good approaches to POC. And, we also believe to have found a school that also holds Banyan Tree's view. and may be a cooperation partner for us in the future.
