What is Weltwärts?
Weltwärts is a voluntary service supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). This voluntary service gives young people the opportunity to volunteer in a developing country for 6 to 24 months. They are supported financially by the BMZ.

„Learning by Doing“ is the guiding sentence of this voluntary service. Weltwärts understands itself as a learning service and at the same time offers young people the opportunity to be part of an intercultural exchange in a developing country. By working in a local NGO the volunteers are expected to learn more about global dependencies and mutual reactions. Weltwärts is supposed to convey mutual understanding, respect and tolerance. The program is financed by the BMZ and several small NGOs.In 2009, Banyan Tree e.V. was also approved as a Weltwärts organisation. In August 2010, for the first time, we sent two volunteers for 12 month to Cambodia. There, they support the local employee Vuthea Eung with the project coordination.
